The fight to stop Manchin's side deal is not over

As your constituent, I am writing to express my gratitude that Senator Manchin's fossil fuel side deal was removed from the continuing resolution government funding bill. I urge you to continue to do all you can to oppose and block this legislation from passing in any future effort because of the giveaways to the fossil fuel industry that it includes.

New handouts to the fossil fuel industry are unacceptable. This side deal would be an environmental justice disaster, as it would cut public participation and environmental review and speed up permits for oil and gas pipelines and other fossil fuel projects, including the dangerous and unpopular Mountain Valley Pipeline.

Protecting frontline communities is important to me, which is why I am calling on you to remain vigilant and oppose all further fossil fuel handouts listed in this bill in any future effort, like the upcoming reauthorization of the National Defense Authorization Act. I urge you to side with the communities impacted by fossil fuels and the climate crisis, and stop this dirty deal in any future effort that may come.

As we celebrate the recent block of Manchin's dirty fossil fuel side deal in Congress, we know that the fight is not fully over. Some Democrats have already doubled down on their commitment to passing this harmful bill before the end of this year. That is why it’s so important for us to keep up the pressure.

Leader Schumer could attach this legislation to another must-pass spending bill in October, so we must do everything we can to continue to voice unified and consistent opposition to this bill.
