ASK YOUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO FUND COMMUNITIES MOST VULNERABLE TO THE CLIMATE CRISIS

Last year, President Biden announced the Justice40 Initiative. J40 would send 40% of federal investment benefits, in the areas of climate and clean energy, directly to communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

It’s a critical time to ask your Representative in Congress to work with President Biden to make the promise of J40 real. Reps. Maloney, Bush, Khanna, Tlaib and Senator Markey are leading a letter calling on the White House to strengthen the J40 Initiative by:

  • Directing funding to communities that are most vulnerable to historic discrimination, pollution, and climate change.
  • Ensuring that Justice40 creates good paying jobs in frontline communities that adhere to strong labor standards and prioritize hiring frontline workers in those communities.
  • Ensuring that all federal investments “do no harm” to disadvantaged communities and require agencies to publicly report impact assessments.
  • Requiring all agencies to implement Justice40 initiatives quickly and comprehensively, and to work closely with states and implementing agencies through a centralized Climate Justice Office.

The Biden administration is ramping up spending on climate and clean energy with the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure, Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA). A large part of these investments must be deployed to fight environmental and climate injustices.

Call your members of Congress to make sure they’re signed on to the letter in support of a strong J40 Initiative! We need a J40 initiative that gives funds directly to frontline communities, creates jobs, centers justice, and gets implemented quickly.
